By building homes, or helping behind the scenes, everyone can make a difference.
NO BARRIER TO VOLUNTEER
We are extremely grateful for the thousands of volunteers that lend their time and energy to our homebuilding efforts each year, whether on a construction site, at our ReStore, in our office, serving on one of our committees, or helping in any number of other ways. Below you will find descriptions of volunteer positions.

We have many opportunities for volunteering, in more than one field.
Construction
The most popular and visible of Habitat for Humanity’s volunteer opportunities.
ReStore Volunteers
The ReStore is a new and used building supply store. All the materials sold in the store have been donated to Habitat for Humanity.
Adopt-a-Day
Adopt-A-Day is a corporate build program. It matches our community’s high demand for group volunteer activities with the growing need for affordable housing.
Construction Volunteers
The most popular and visible of Habitat for Humanity’s volunteer opportunities, construction volunteers are continually in demand due to Habitat’s ongoing building efforts.
Age Restriction: At least 16 years old
Construction Hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Skill Requirements
No construction experience or skills are required. Construction volunteers, led by Habitat for Humanity Merced/Stanislaus Staff, help us build year-round. Volunteers undertake dozens of home construction tasks such as hanging drywall, painting, tiling, siding, insulating, and framing. Volunteers are scheduled on both an individual and group basis.
Other Requirements
Each volunteer is encouraged to bring a set of basic tools: hammer, nail apron, tape measure, and a pencil. If you have other basic tools, for example, a utility knife, gloves, siding snips, etc., you may wish to bring them. Please make sure to label all your tools with your name (or you might end up inadvertently making a donation to Habitat that you had not intended) Before the first day at the construction site, please make sure to attend a brief orientation and sign a volunteer form and Release of Liability Waiver. Each Habitat volunteer must sign a Release of Liability form agreeing to take personal responsibility for any accidents or injuries on the job. Most individuals have a personal health insurance plan that covers them while engaged in volunteer work. However, you should verify your coverage prior to coming to the work site.
ReStore Volunteers
What is the RESTORE?
The ReStore is a new and used building supply store. All the materials sold in the store have been donated to Habitat for Humanity. It is a way to recycle old items back into the community and keep them out of the landfill, as well as a cheap option for home repair items. It is a great place for those who could not afford to fix up their house at hardware store prices or just someone looking for a good deal. All money made at the store goes back toward our Homeowner program.
Skill Requirements
Jobs in the ReStore are assigned depending on your strength and skill level. There is something for everyone. On the job training is offered and a letter of recommendation upon request.
Other Requirements
For your own safety we ask that you wear closed toed shoes (comfy tennis shoes are best) and long pants. It is also recommended that you wear clothing that you do not mind getting a little dusty. * Before the first day at the Re-Store, please make sure to attend a brief orientation and sign a volunteer form and Release of Liability Waiver. Each Habitat volunteer must sign a Release of Liability form agreeing to take personal responsibility for any accidents or injuries on the job. Most individuals have a personal health insurance plan that covers them while engaged in volunteer work. However, you should verify your coverage prior to coming to the work site.
Volunteers in our ReStore help price items, clean the store, do inventory, assist customers, and help with incoming donations.
Adopt-A-Day
Adopt-A-Day is a corporate build program. It matches our community’s high demand for group volunteer activities with the growing need for affordable housing. It’s a great opportunity to create or celebrate milestones, and for employees to engage with their community while strengthening team skills.
A tax-deductible sponsor contribution of $1,500 helps to cover the cost of materials and volunteer support for the day. The sponsorship includes:
10-15 of your employees to work on the build site
Supplies for the day
Group training
Lunch, snacks and drinks
